Blogger Recognition Award

Hey guys!! I got nominated for an award by the beautiful Hebah @ Hebah Pervaiz!! Thank you Hebah!!😁

This is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers as a recognition of their hard work. It’s amazing how much support I’ve gotten from fellow bloggers; advice, recommendations, compliments and even the “little” likes on my blog posts are just a few ways by which fellow bloggers from all over the world have encouraged me. Thank you guys!!

RULES

  • Write a blog post to show your award
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers
  • Select 15 other bloggers to nominate

BRIEF STORY OF HOW MY BLOG STARTED

I’ve always loved novels. So much infact that during some tests or exams, I would take time off revising to read a particularly good novel.

One day, I mentioned to my sisters that I wanted to start a book blog and they shut me down by asking me where I would get books from, how I would meet with other bloggers and they laughed. It hurt a lot and I didn’t mention it again. Then, some months later, when I was complaining about the appalling book a Nigerian celebrity wrote, my twin sister, Kehinde told me I could write reviews of books important personalities write. I felt very disgusted at the idea and I told her I had no intention of doing that.

Much later and after a lot of postponing, I began to write reviews of books. The first review I wrote was of the Throne of Glass series. I showed my mum and sisters and they corrected it as best as they could. I continued writing reviews and I wrote about six or seven before Kehinde told me that I had written enough reviews and she began pestering me to start my blog. A friend of mine gave me the name, I worried over the .com and .org issue but I finally started. I’m glad I did.

My only regret is that I wish I had started earlier. Sigh😔

ADVICE TO NEW BLOGGERS

1. Never ever despair or give up.

When I first started, I checked Cait @ Paper Fury’s blog and it was so beautiful. I looked at my blog then and it looked ugly and horrible. I thought about just stopping and closing my blog but the likes and comments from other bloggers kept me going. If you aren’t getting those yet, keep on going. The blogging community is amazing. Even if you get a mean or hurtful comment, ignore them and do your thing!

2. Interact with other bloggers meaningfully.

Did the word at the end confuse you? Don’t worry, I’ll explain. Imagine Blogger A and Blogger B who both comment on Blogger C’s lipstick review post. Blogger A says “Great review!” while B says “I love the shade of this lipstick. My skin is dark so when I use this shade, it pops up really well. I’ve used this brand’s mascara and I really didn’t like it. I’m glad the lipstick is better. Thanks for putting up the purchase link. Great review by the way.”

As you can see, there’s an obvious difference. If I see A’s comment, I’ll go “Thank you!” with maybe an emoji but I will reply to B’s comment in a much better way. I will have a conversation with B. Also, I’ll check out B’s blog. I might even follow B. That comment is wonderful! I’ll most likely not check A’s blog. That’s a very forgettable comment.

If you’re seeing this and you’re thinking “I didn’t start a blog to chat with people” then, I honestly have no idea what to say to you but I’m 99.99% sure that method won’t work. I’ve seen bloggers who have been consistently blogging since July or worse, February and have less than 50 followers. They exist. Don’t be one of them.

And I’m done!! I’m not sure I’m in the position to give advise but I hope my post helps you take your blog to wherever you want it!

  1. I’m so glad that you decided to start a book blog, even if you were discouraged at first! I’m so sorry for that. I one hundred percent agree with your second piece of advice! It is important to actually engage with other bloggers. Blogging is so much more fulfilling when you take the time out to comment on others blogs and actually make friends in the book community! Congratulations on this nomination! You’ll be proud of me, I’m writing up my Liebster Award post today! I’ve been putting off my awards for so long, I’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and write them up! I have 2 separate Liebster’s I’m putting up so don’t be alarmed when my first post goes up and you aren’t included! I had to separate my Liebster’s into two different posts and you’ll be in the second one! Sorry for rambling!

    1. It really hurt at first to get laughed at but I’m glad they supported me in the end. I probably would have put off starting my blog till now if I hadn’t gotten their support in the end. Sometimes, I don’t have a lot to say about a post and I don’t comment but if I have something to say, I make sure it’s very meaningful. I’ve made a lot of good friends through blogging and the comments we both make. And yes, I’m very proud of you for doing this award now. That’s very good. I have 4 more award posts to write and I’m spreading them out over next week. You didn’t ramble. I love your comment a lot. Thanks for taking the time to write this.

  2. Congratulations on your award and thank you so much for thinking of me. Thank you tagging me as well! I agree without interacting with others bloggers reviews and things just isn’t as fun. I also was the same when I wanted to review books on my own blog because no understood why I wanted to do it. They kinda of still don’t but I don’t care because its something I love. I love all your answers to!

  3. I think all of us feel inadequate at the beginning of blogging. I know I did and still do. I’ve learned to not compare my blog with other blogs. We each have our own vibes and put our own spin on things. We’re all amazing bloggers and each have an unique story to tell. I love your blog and so glad you started it. Keep up the great work and thanks so much for the nomination ❤

  4. That’s quite an origin story! I kept my blog a secret from pretty much everyone until my sisters caught me one time writing during the summer! (And I couldn’t use school as an excuse) I’m so glad you got nominated, those are some great pieces of advice! Having a not-so-pretty blog isn’t a reason to stop! It’s motivation to keep you going and improve your site, reviews and everything!

  5. Congratulations on the award. I couldn’t agree more about the meaningful engagement. I think it’s fantastic how much you can learn and grow yourself from interacting with other bloggers. Posting a meaningful comment and having a conversation is great – I understand some people might not have started a blog for a conversation like you say- but it’s great to interact with others and maybe learn something new or even gain a friend!

    1. Thank you very much. I’ve learnt a lot from other bloggers I’ve interacted with and not just novel review bloggers; even beauty and motivational bloggers. Just like you said too, it’s amazing making friends with people. Thanks a lot for your comment.
