Hey guys!! Today, I’m going to be doing something slightly different from my normal review/tag/meme. I’m going to be comparing books and their adaptations!! Yay!
First on the list is (obviously) Harry Potter.
1. Harry Potter
The books written by JK Rowling are amazing. I’ve met only about three people that don’t like the books. I think the concept is genius, Joan’s ability to write about teenagers so well is very laudable and the characters are amazing.
I love the movies of Harry Potter although not as much as the books. The producers did a really good job of getting a group of actors and actresses that were able to show just the right amount of emotion. This is the best movie adaptation of any book/ series that I’ve ever seen.
My only problem with the movie was Ginny. She was just the romantic element in the movie unlike the books where she had more to her than being Harry’s crush.
2. The Lord of the Rings
I read this series for the first time at the age of 15 (in 2015). I finished the three books and immediately went back to the first book and read the whole trilogy again. I’ve read the trilogy every year since then. Reading these books for the first time made me realise how much I loved fantasy and I’ve got JRR Tolkien to thank for that.
The scenery and of LOTR was good; really good but the actors and actresses weren’t the best. Frodo and Aragon made me cringe quite a few times and Legolas was just a fine face in the movies (I preferred him in The Hobbit). Pippin and Merry’s bromance was very well acted and both men did a really good job but I prefer the books.
It would be impossible to make this kind of list without mentioning Eragon. I’ve seen a lot of hate for it on Goodreads but it seems most of the hate stems from the fact that the author published with his parents. Personally, I really like the books although I really hate that the romance ended sadly.
I saw this movie on a friend’s phone and I was so excited!! At the time, I didn’t know there was a movie and I felt so sure it would be as good as Harry Potter or LOTR. The movie was HORRIBLE. I don’t think I’ve felt such disappointment before. It felt like a mockery of the awesomeness of the books.
I can’t really pinpoint what makes it bad because I watched it only once a year ago and deleted it immediately after but I can tell you that I nearly cried with anger and frustration during and after watching it. The actors were awful, the film effects were worse. In summary, it was bullshit.
I contemplated not adding the movie poster infact.
4. 13 Reasons Why
I can’t remember this book very well but I remember I didn’t like it. My dislike for the book prevented me from watching the TV series until months after everyone else had watched it.
You know that saying, “The book is always better than the movie. ” This TV series completely nullifies it. I disliked the book and I loved the TV series. I could feel that hurt, anger and pain of the characters and I could understand all that happened to Hannah and why she acted the way she did.
The next part of BvTA is going to feature Percy Jackson, Chronicles of Narnia, The Maze Runner and Hunger Games! Follow me so you’ll get notified when I post it.
